Kite buggying - boarding: Borth Wind Direction: W Wind Stength: 18-15kts Surf / Sea State: Air Temperature: 7 Sea Temperature: Weather: sun/showers Max Speed: Distance Covered:
Another cracking 3 hours on the landboard with 8m North Kite. Standing
water in places made for some entertainment ! Glad I was wearing full wet
gear. Met a couple of guys from Cwm Rheidol with a land yacht. How could
I refuse the offer of a go... What great fun! reminded me of my Laser
sailing days. If it was mine I'd put a (easy release) cleat on the
mainsheet though 'cos somehow it is quite heavy to hold close hauled. Held
it on 2 wheels quite a bit but didn't want to push it too far having broken
masts in the past (and that was on water..) Wouldn't mind one but I suspect
assembling it might be a bit of a pain - part of the reason I got a
landboard was because assembling my Peter Lynn buggy is tedious. The
*real* benefit however is the lack of sand basting at my face on the board
though the land yacht seemed better in that respect because the front wheel
is further away... At the end of the session I went into the sea with a
board (knowing the kite would be too small) and practised lifting myself up
onto the board again. Had a good few goes - a couple of times I managed to
stay standing by sweeping the kite to an fro through the window but that
exercise was limited because it was an onshore wind and the beach
approaches fast. Was very tempted to get the 12m kite up and get a real go
but it was getting late and my fingers were going numb. Next time ;)
